TWO-DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR
TWO-DAY
NATIONAL SEMINAR
ON
GLOBALIZATION-TRIBAL
AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
ISSUES AND CHALLENGES
(Sponsored by UGC, New Delhi)
November 29-30, 2008
Organized by
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS
UNIVERSITY ARTS & SCIENCE COLLEGE
KAKATIYA UNIVERSITY WARANGAL, AP
About The Seminar: The process of
globalization and its various economic
reforms initiated in 90’s has affected socioeconomic
conditions of rural population in
general and tribes in particular. Still
agricultural sector provides employment to
about 65 percent of the population. It
contributes even today 27 percent of gross
domestic product. In a global agricultural
economy, small farms will be replaced by
large farms, which in turn will be controlled
by giant multinational corporations. Small
farmers quite simply will not be able to
compete in a “free market” global economy.
Agricultural sector is the mainstay of the
tribal and rural Indian economy around
which socio-economic privileges and
deprivations revolve, and any change in its
structure is likely to have a corresponding
impact on the existing pattern of social
equality. No strategy of economic reform
can succeed without sustained and broad
based agricultural development. There were
studies which show that the economic
liberalization and reforms process have very
much impact on tribal agricultural and rural
sectors. With this background the National
Seminar would focus on the impact of the
Globalization on Tribal Agricultural
Development, Issues and Challenges in
India. The following are the broad Themes:
I-Globalization Issues and Challenges
II-Tribal Land Issues
III-Tribal Agricultural Development
IV-Women in Tribal Economy
V-Development Agencies (ITDA, MADA,
GCC, DWAMA, DRDA, NGOs) Empowering
Tribes
Call for Papers:
In view of your expertise in the subject and
wide experience in the field, we request you
to contribute your research paper on any one
of the above themes. The abstract and full
length paper neatly typed in (MS-Word)
with double space in soft (CD) and hard
copy should reach to Dr. B. Suresh Lal,
Seminar Director, latest by 25th November-
2008.
The seminar however can gain more
meaningful and become more effective with
your participation as that adds one more
point of view to the whole spectrum of ideas
and views. It would also be a fruitful
experience for the participants, as the
seminar would resemble a miniature country
that would showcase the issues in different
parts of the country.
