Call for Papers for Annual Conference
IARNIW was formed under the guidance of late Prof. V.K.R.V. Rao in 1964 to bring together contributions from scholars in the field of national income and allied subjects and the agencies responsible for compiling the national accounts. IARNIW encourages research in national income, wealth and allied fields by organizing seminars and conferences on various issues relating to estimation and compilation of national income in India. The research studies produced by the Association and papers presented at its conferences, seminars etc. are published in the journal of the Association.
Journal of Income and Wealth: The Journal of Income and Wealth is a biennial publication carrying research papers and studies relating to concepts, definitions and statistical measures of macro-economic aggregates at the national, sectoral and regional levels. The Journal publishes both refereed papers presented in the IARNIW seminars and conferences as well as contributions from scholars working in the field. The Journal is indexed in the Econ Lit and is available both in print and on-line.
Call for Papers: The Association is organizing its annual conference at Hyderabad during 10th-12th January 2011 in collaboration with the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad. Papers are invited on topics relating to National Accounts, External Transactions, Regional Accounts, Health and Education Accounts, Measurement of Informal Economy and Poverty and Inequality. All contributions should be sent to Secretary, IARNIW, Sardar Patel Bhawan, New Delhi-110 001 (E-mail: rameshkolli@nic.in or pc.mohanan@nic.in) so as to reach before 1st December 2010. All papers should be in a single WORD document. Authors of selected papers will be invited to present their papers in the conference and the Association will bear the cost of train travel and stay.

Academic Writing & Publication Workshop for Research Students
Between November 14 to 20, 2010
Applications are invited for the Academic Writing and Publication Workshop for Research Students that will be held at Central University of Gujarat from November 16 to 20, 2010.
The workshop will be held in collaboration with ICSSR – Western Regional Centre and will offer research students in colleges and universities an opportunity to learn and discuss the techniques of research writing and publication.
The workshop will (i) help participants understand how to structure research papers effectively, (ii) enhance their ability to critique, edit and review their own work, and (iii) familiarize them with the academic publication process.
The themes that will be covered would include:
• Writing a proposal
• Review of literature
• Critiquing a manuscript- Different perspectives
• Information search
• Citation styles, using end notes and foot notes
• Analyzing data – qualitative and quantitative
• Preparing a manuscript for publication
• Organizing the argument
• Different styles of writing
• Making abstracts, synopsis
Resource Persons: This workshop will be conducted by resource persons eminent in the field of social sciences who have experience in writing, editing and publishing research papers.
The workshop will be structured as an intensive mix of lectures and discussions. The focus will be on interactive participation.
Who Is Eligible? Students who have registered for M.Phil/Ph.D. in any university in the field of social sciences and who are preferably at the writing stage of their dissertation/thesis.
Applicants must submit one draft research paper or research proposal of about 2500 words to 4000 words (including footnotes/endnotes and references) that they have written along with their applications. Applications without the draft paper will not be considered.
Travel and Accommodation: Outstation participants will be paid travel by III AC by train from their place to Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar and back.

Job Summary
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) or Research Fellow (RF) for a two (2) year, fixed term, renewable, exempt appointment for its office in New Delhi. This position is based at IFPRI -New Delhi located in India but would involve travel to any of the countries in which IFPRI carries out its research. The final grade level will be determined by demonstrated experience and track record of publications. Please note that Postdoctoral Fellow appointments at IFPRI have a maximum term of three (3) years, inclusive of any approved appointment extensions.
The PDF/RF will work on the issues related to agribusiness in emerging modern value chains, especially those in fruits and vegetables, animal products, poultry, fishery and other high-value agricultural sectors. The PDF/RF will be responsible for developing projects related to the study of changing food systems in Asia, with focus on South and south-east Asia. The PDF/RF will study the implications of such fast changing food systems on small farmers and women, and other poor households, and designing policies that can help them to exploit these emerging opportunities. The work will involve developing a clear conceptual framework for understanding possible channels of impact, organizing field research in the region (including farm surveys and interviews with various participants in the food marketing channel), data analysis, preparation of research reports and dissemination of the results of policy makers and other stakeholders in the region.
Essential Duties:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Developing and conducting research and analysis related to agribusiness in modern value chains, especially those in fruits and vegetables, animal products, poultry, fishery and other high-value agricultural sectors with focus on South and south-east Asian countries.
Developing work plans and coordinating particular research activities with other colleagues and stakeholders.
Maintaining a high level of research output for publication outlets both within IFPRI, and for peer-reviewed journals within the wider scientific community, on topics of close relevance to the work of the New Delhi office.
Creating linkages to possible external collaborators and research groups, when possible to further IFPRI's work.
Communicating research to a broad spectrum of stakeholders (researchers, academicians, policy makers, local partners). " Assisting in development and monitoring of a project budget. " Assisting in reporting on program/project activities.
May assist in supervising or coordinating the work of Research support staff.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Agriculture Business, Business Administration, Economics, Agricultural Economics, or related field
Strong capabilities in quantitative analysis.
Ability to use economic theory in innovative and policy relevant ways.
Strong academic publications record
Experience in guiding surveys to collect and analyze primary data
Ability to travel extensively " Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
Ability to raise funds for research.
Preferred Qualification:
Work experience in Asia, especially South Asia.
Language skills relevant for work in the region.
Previous experience carrying out research on contract farming, food processing and super markets in developing countries.

As part of its outreach activities, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is seeking applications for the Visiting Students Programme 2010.
Visiting Students Programis meant to provide a taste of economics research for Masters (M.A., M.B.A., M.Com., M.Sc. and M.Stat.) and final year engineering (B.E., B.Tech.) students of other Colleges/Institutes/Universities.
Eligibility: For those pursuing their Master's in Economics, eligibility for this program is at least at Second Division at their Bachelor's level. For students of other disciplines, eligibility is a First Division in their previous degree obtained (For B.E./B.Tech. students, the performance in the first three years or whatever is available will also be taken into consideration).
Selection would be based on a statement of purpose of one page (about 300 words curriculum vitae and recommendation letter from their College/Institute/University with communication details of the concerned authority.
Emoluments: Selected participants will be paid Rs.4000/- per month, to and fro second-class train fare and allowed to stay at IGIDR for a period of four-to-eight weeks at a stretch, any time during the year. During their stay they would be provided free accommodation at IGIDR.
Faculty guidance and visit time: Selected students would be assigned a faculty member for guidance although they are free to interact with all the faculty members and students. The time of visit to be decided by the participant in consultation with the faculty s/he is assigned with, but this has to be done within the calendar year of 2010.
Requirement: At the end of the stay, the participant is required to submit a report (self-study or survey of issues among others). The report will be archived at IGIDR. Further academic outcomes from the stay should be duly acknowledged and the same intimated to IGIDR.
Foreign studentsare also encouraged to apply. However, in such cases there would be no financial commitment by the institute. The institute may provide local hospitality.

The Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) invites applications for its two-month course on 'Researching the Contemporary'. This cross-disciplinary course will critically examine the formation of the contemporary and its multiple histories, ideologies, forms and affects. A focus on three thematic areas will enable participants to familiarize themselves with concepts and theories that help analyse the contemporary. These include:
Contemporary Social Theory
History, Memory, Identity
Capital, Consumption, Markets
This course aims to have participants reflect upon and further develop their research questions and methods. This is an intensive course with compulsory readings and class discussions. Course materials will be made available. Participants are expected to write research papers upon completion. A participation certificate will be awarded upon successful completion. The course will be conducted over 8 weeks between July 1-August 31, 2010. Classes will be held at CSDS on week-day afternoons, Tuesday to Thursday, from 3-5pm.
Applications are invited from MA/M.Phil/Ph.D students as well as independent researchers.
