National Seminar on Micro Finance – Issues and Challenges
Call for Papers
Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow, India is a society established by National bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), India in 1983 as an apex level institute offering training, research and consultancy services on various aspects of agriculture, rural development and rural finance. BIRD has set up within its fold a Centre for Microfinance Research (CMR) to take up research activities in the field of microfinance for facilitating policy initiatives and improvements in design and delivery system of microfinance services. The Centre has established four sub centres at Indian Institute of Bank Management (IIBM), Guwahati, Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR), Chennai, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Jaipur and Chandragupt Institute of Management (CIM), Patna.
CMR is organising its 3nd National Seminar on Microfinance – Issues and Challenges at Lucknow on 01-02 December 2011. Microfinance practitioners, economists, bankers, policy makers and other stakeholders are expected to participate in the Seminar. For the purpose, papers on the broad themes mentioned below are invited from researchers/practitioners in the field of microfinance.
1. Regulatory challenges for client protection in microfinance
2. Enhancing outreach of microfinance: Role of Technology
3. Microfinance through co-operatives: Performance and prospects
4. Revival of rural artisans, handloom and handicraft cluster bases: Potential role of microfinance
Interested researchers/practitioners are requested to submit their papers, not exceeding 6000 words, latest by 30 August 2011. Abstracts not exceeding 200 words should also be submitted alongwith the papers. All papers will be reviewed for their suitability for presentation in the Seminar. Detailed guidelines for submission of papers are available on our website www.birdindia.org.in. Authors of the selected papers will be invited to present their papers in the proposed seminar for which they will be paid II AC rail fare/ Airfare by economy class by the shortest route. All the papers selected for presentation in the seminar will be published in our journal ‘The microFINANCE REVIEW’ to be released during the seminar for which concurrence of the authors may be expressed.

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) was established by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the year 1987 as an advanced research Institute for the study of national and Global development issues. The Institute is recognized as a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act and offers M.Sc. Programme in Economics, M.Phil/Ph.D and External Ph.D in Development Studies. The Institute is governed by a Board of Management (BoM) consisting of distinguished academicians and policy makers in the country. The Chairman of the BoM is the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. The Institute is located on a beautiful 14 acre campus at Goregaon East , Mumbai.
IGIDR invites applications from well qualified and experienced persons for the following posts on contract basis initially for a period of two years which may be extendable.
1. Communications Manager cum Editor : 1 post
Qualification, Experience : The applicant must hold a Masters Degree, preferably in a communication related subject with specialization in Journalism from a reputed University with minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in field of communications and ability to demonstrate knowledge of a broad range of communication activities – media, websites, publications, marketing, social media, events etc. Proven and demonstrable experience of working with wide range of media, developing media strategies and relations, preparing press releases etc. Experience working with e-communications, including preparing and sending e-bulletins, supporter updates etc. Excellent writing and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence across the organization and externally.
Desirable: Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of oral and written communications and interpersonal relations skills in order to determine the most effective proposals.
2. Assistant Administrative Officer (HR): 1 post
1.Qualification, Experience : The applicant must be a Post Graduate / MBA in HR
Management. Should have demonstrated initiative, leadership and supervisory skills, strong communication skills in English (Both oral and written). Should have 2 to 5 years of experience in related areas or areas in which communication skill is demonstrated. AAO (HR) would be responsible for implementation of IGIDR’s approved HR and administrative policies and procedures.The incumbent has to actively interact with the Faculty, Administration and other staff members. He/she will provide leadership in ensuring equity and transparency in application of the policies.
3. Assistant Administrative Officer (Events and External Relations) : 1 post
a. Qualification, Experience : The applicant must have a Post graduate Degree. Should have demonstrated initiative, leadership and supervisory skills, strong communication skills in English (Both oral and written). Should have at least 2 to 5 years of experience in related areas or areas in which communication skill is demonstrated. The incumbent has to actively interact with faculty, Administration and other staff members.
4. Civil Engineer : 2 post
1.Qualification , Experience : The applicant must be a Post graduate / graduate in Civil / Mechanical Engineering with at least 2 to 5 years of experience in maintaining large campuses . The job requires a hands-on approach and excellent co-ordination skills for maintaining the entire campus.
General Information:
a. Contract appointment: All the above posts are on contract basis initially for a period of two years which may be extendable .
b. Age : For all the above posts is 30 to 45 years
c. Remuneration : Remuneration will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, NOIDA invites applications from young teachers
and researchers from universities/colleges/research Institutions and professionals in
government organisations who intend to pursue their interests in the area of gender
research on labour issues for participating in the Course on Research Methods on
Gender Issues in Labour, during 25-29, July, 2011. The objectives of the course are:
Theoretical Perspectives on gender research; To understand the various feminist
methodologies and approaches in gender research; A critical understanding of dominant
theories of knowledge and methodologies employed in humanities and social sciences;
Introducing them to various Qualitative and Quantitative techniques in gender issues
in labour research; To make them familiar with new statistical packages like SPSS. Each
of the selected participants would be required to make a brief presentation of a proposal/
research paper or a case study, related to their current theme of research interest,
during the training period. No programme fee will be charged and VVGNLI will provide
to and fro sleeper class fare and free boarding and lodging in the Institute’s Campus.
